Phoebe Anna Traquair  From a commentary by Elizabeth Cumming

Phoebe Anna Traquair’s place in history is unique. She was the first important professional woman artist of modern Scotland.

To rank as such might be enough to ensure her fame, but Traquair was also a central figure within Scottish Arts and Crafts practice, working prolifically in such diverse fields as embroidery, enamelwork, leather book-cover tooling and, not least, manuscript illumination and mural decoration.

Angelical beauty

Your lips, your eyes, your soul
Are like a work of art,
The most creative thing of all
Is your beautiful heart.

If you were a painting,
No colors could express
The beauty deep inside you,
A rainbow, nothing less.
If you were a sculpture
the clay could hardly make
your figure of an angel
without one mistake.

If you were euphony
No choir could really sing
all the beautiful music
your eyes could possibly bring

So here I am, an artist,
With inspiration beyond belief
But to capture such rare beauty,
I’d have to be a thief

African beauty.

African Beauty
Measures of beauty can’t be always be measured. Everyone has his own beauty tasting.
With this painting if we look to the features of the woman’s face many will not see her a beautiful woman. Many will see her beautiful as i see here. Often we link between beauty and sex that can be when we look with eyes of covetousness. But to see the really beauty of a woman you must use the eyes of your heart. We must know that every woman has her own way to show her beauty.

Our woman in this painting shows her beauty with different ways. For sure her head is shaven or has a short hair. But with this lovely elegant black turban she has added what can show a part from her beauty. If we look at her eyebrow we can see it’s embellished. She also had added eyeliner around her eyes. The lips i think it can be an ideal lips for nowadays makeup. The necklace is an African style one that can add more to show her beauty.

Every woman shows her beauty to everyone but be specially for men. The woman knows what can attract the men. So the men in Africa can be attracted to women beauty with different way than men in Europe.

Beauty behind veil

Beauty behind veil

Among green meadows you can see
A sweat stream flowing so softly, smoothly
With a musical rhythm
It’s beauty.
Alabaster magical nymphs are hidden behind veils.
Their eyes are only what you can see.
In the eyes lies the secret of all beauty.
The shameless beauty loses its sweetness after a while.
The hidden beauty always keeps its beauty secrets.
I said to her
How much your eyes keep saying about
The beauty of your soul and your heart.
Yes your body is beautiful
But i can see it more beautiful in your eyes.
If my world is beautiful !!
Because i see it through your eyes.
